Urgent Drainage and Rapid Relief for Anal Abscess
What is an Anal Abscess? Why is it Urgent? An anal abscess is a collection of pus beneath the skin caused by the blockage and infection of the secretory glands in the anal region. Our patients generally describe this condition as “severe and throbbing pain” that prevents sitting, walking, and sleeping at night. Swelling, redness, and high fever may be observed in the area.
An anal abscess is not a simple infection that can be dried up with antibiotics; it definitely requires surgical intervention. If left untreated or delayed, the abscess may burst spontaneously, opening to the skin, and in 50% of cases, it turns into a condition called Anal Fistula (a permanent inflammation tunnel), which is much more difficult to treat.
Effective Drainage and Fistula Prevention Approach in İzmir The golden rule in abscess treatment is “drainage as soon as it is seen.” The main goal of the modern drainage method we apply in our İzmir clinic is not only to save the patient from the current unbearable pain but also to minimize the risk of fistula formation in the future. Correct incision and drainage performed by experienced hands limit tissue damage and accelerate the healing process. The procedure is performed painlessly, prioritizing patient comfort.
How is the Treatment Performed? (Step by Step)
Preparation and Anesthesia
Since the abscess tissue is very tense and painful, patient comfort is the priority. The area is numbed using local anesthesia or sedation, ensuring the patient feels no pain during the procedure.
Intervention and Drainage
A millimetric entry is made from the most suitable point of the abscess. The pressurized pus accumulated inside, which causes pain, is drained out in a controlled manner.
Cleaning the Cavity (Lavage)
Draining the pus alone is not sufficient. The inside of the abscess pocket is washed with antiseptic solutions and cleared of dead tissue. This step is critical to prevent recurrence.
Result
The procedure takes about 10-15 minutes. As soon as the internal pressure is relieved, the throbbing pain experienced by the patient stops immediately. The patient can return home with great relief right after the procedure.
