Incision-Free Modern Solution for Pilonidal Sinus: SiLaC®
What is Pilonidal Sinus? It is a condition where loose hairs shed from the back or clothing fibers penetrate the skin, usually in the tailbone area, settle subcutaneously, and form an inflamed cyst or tunnel structure. Manifesting with pain, abscess, and foul-smelling discharge, this condition is frequently seen, especially in the young population.
The main reason patients avoid treatment is the difficulty of classical surgical methods (Flap surgeries, etc.). In classical surgeries, a large piece of tissue is cut and removed, the area is stitched, and the patient may need to lie face down for 15-20 days to heal. Additionally, the large surgical scar left after the procedure causes aesthetic concerns for patients.
SiLaC® (Sinus Laser Ablation of the Cyst) Technology in İzmir The SiLaC® method, which we apply in our İzmir clinic, is the most modern approach offering “non-surgical” comfort in pilonidal sinus treatment. The biggest difference of this method is that it requires no incisions or stitches. No scalpel is used; the procedure is performed by entering only through the existing millimetric holes created by the disease.
After the cyst cavity inside is cleaned, the cavity is sealed from the inside by burning (ablation) with laser energy. Since no incision is made on the skin, there is no scar causing aesthetic anxiety. Most importantly, unlike classical surgeries, our patients can lie on their backs, sit immediately after the procedure, and return to school or work the next day.
How is the Treatment Performed? (Step by Step)
Entry
Access is gained through the existing small holes; no extra incision is made.
Debridement (Cleaning)
The hair and inflammation inside are cleaned using micro-instruments.
Laser
A laser fiber is inserted into the cleaned cavity, and the cyst cavity is sealed with heat.
Result
No stitches are applied. The patient can sit and walk immediately and return to work the next day.
